Liese Katschinka is a graduate from the University of Vienna (diploma as a translator and interpreter: German, English).
Has been working as a free-lance conference interpreter (AIIC: German, English, French) and certified court interpreter (German, English), as well as a free-lance sci-tech translator throughout her professional life.
Has been actively involved in a number of national and international professional associations such as President of EULITA [European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association] between 2009 and 2017; Vice-President of the Austrian Court Interpreters’ Association [ÖVGD] from 1994 to 2016; Chairperson of the FIT [International Federation of Translators] Committee for Legal Interpreting and Translation from 1999 to 2008; Secretary General of FIT from 1993 – 1999; Secretary General of the Austrian Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association UNIVERSITAS from 1982 to 1991;Vice-President of FIT from 1984 to 1987; Member of the AIIC [International Association of Conference Interpreters] Court and Legal Interpreting Commission since 1986.
Was actively involved in the elaboration of quality standards for translators and interpreters (ÖNORM series D 1200 and EN 15038). Was the project leader to develop an international standard on legal interpreting (ISO 20228 rd).
Has written a large number of articles on the topics of court interpreting, quality assurance, association building, etc., for various professional journals and made over a dozen presentations on these topics at various international conferences.
